Cervia is the city of salt and every year it recalls its roots by celebrating 'white gold'. Salt nativity scenes, which have become an integral part of Cervia's tradition, could not be missing here.
The salt nativity scene on the water is of great charm and features brilliant salt-covered statues with suggestive plays of light. The statues merge the charm of two Cervese traditions, that of salt and that of the sea. The display, built on the burchiella, the typical flat-bottomed boat used in the past in the salt-pan canals, also includes three salt pyramids, to represent the importance of the production of Cervia salt pans' White Gold.
The life-size nativity scene is enhanced by the setting of the Salt Warehouses, where a tour of handcrafted nativity scenes made with care and passion is set up inside.
Also not to be missed inside MUSA, the Salt Museum of Cervia, is the nativity scene made entirely of salt, kept in a glass case that protects it from sudden changes in temperature and humidity.
Also on display is a mechanical nativity scene, similar to the more traditional nativity scenes, again dedicated to "white gold".
